I’m really sleepy now, so I don’t write much. I had quite few time last days because of moving, but I wanted so badly to illustrate this week’s IF topic Adventure. Because I LOVE adventures! At the same time I finished also one book (very short one), which is Alice In Wonderland. If you read my last post, then you know that I started illustrating books I’ve read. And cause Alice had very exciting adventure, I decided to make one picture instead of two. 🙂
But I finish now and going to sleep. Must wake up early tomorrow. I hope I see good dreams with lots of adventures! 🙂
I love reading books. And I love drawing. So, I decided to put these two things together and every time after finishing one book, I illustrate some scene of it. I made new menu button for this: https://hannalaasberg.wordpress.com/illustrate-after-reading/. There I’ll put all illustrations of books I’ll make in future.
I started with The Picture of Dorian Gray, which I just finished. It was quite pleasure reading. Not 5 stars, but 4 certainly. The most remarkable part to me was when Dorian killed Basil. So I chose the scene after Basil’s murder, when Dorian looked the portrait and saw that his hand is covered with blood.
Now I can start new book. I have plenty of them waiting in queue. 🙂
In my first post, I told that I wanna learn MyPaint. And I did it. My last two works are made with this program. Furthermore, I used Wacom drawing tablet that I had chance to lend for few weeks. Unfortunately I must give it back now to the owner and use my mouse like usual. 😦 I definitely must buy this tool for myself. It’s such helpful.
One day more and I move to the capital city and soon start working there. I hope I’ll find little time to draw Illustration Friday’s this week topic, because this is ADVENTURE. 🙂 And what is better than one exciting adventure?
You know that feeling when you need to do so many things that it feels like your head is stuffed? Our everyday life is full of duties and obligations and always is so busy. Sometimes you just need to stop and take a rest of this heavy burden. This picture is about exactly that feeling. Everyday duties can cause the overwhelming and you can easily feel that your head is gonna explode.
This includes studying and learning, too. Internet Era means that information is so easily accessible. We fill our heads with different information until we know something about everything but actually this means that we don’t know much about anything. So just relax and enjoy the day and don’t forget that you’re head is not the garbage bin.
“Too much information is like too much food. Eventually it will make you feel stuffed!”
This week’s topic is Stuffed, but my picture is rather “unstuffed”. This is about toy rabbit, who had been bitten by dog and left lying around. The rabbit is lying there like wounded person and the cotton is like blood around it.
I love toys, especially stuffed ones. I feel like they are living creatures. Almost year ago, when I worked in a bric a brac shop, there was a little girl with her mom. And I heard her mom saying something like: “Now we are buying you new teddy and old teddy is going to the teddy’s graveyard.” You don’t believe how sad I was because this teddy! I wanted to tell that mom that maybe she’ll give this old teddy to me. I wanted to save it. But I didn’t dare. I’m coward. 😦
But the end of my rabbit’s tale is much happier. Although not all of the story. His owner fixes him, but then buys herself new and more beautiful rabbit toy. Happy about her new toy, she doesn’t notice, that the old one is falling off her hands. In home she realizes that her old rabbit is lost, but she doesn’t care so much. And the rabbit is lying all night in the cold and rain. But if you want to know the end of the Rag Rabbit’s story, then check out all pictures here: https://hannalaasberg.wordpress.com/ragrabbit/ .
It’s late and I’m very tired. So I’m going to bed now and take my teddy with me. 🙂
Last week, after Illustration Friday’s new topic Star was revealed, I started to thought about the new picture to make. I imagined a woman with the stars in her hair. But at first the image in my head was very difficult to implement. But suddenly, walking to the shop to buy some food, a picture came to my head – a woman as the world. And I knew I must make it. I was so excited to go back to the home and sketch it to the paper. And now, few days later it’s ready and if I’m honest I really like it! It’s not always like that. Usually I have rather weak idea and then the pictures come out weak, too.
It’s always nice to be satisfied with the result. It keeps you motivated and happy. I have always admired people, who love what they are doing. I believe that when you start doing whatever you love, and keep doing it even when there are obstacles and difficulties, then you achieve the success. Doesn’t matter what it is, what you like, just keep doing it, and then, one day, you are what you want to be – successful writer, famous singer, Nobel laureate or Miss World.
And finally, today is the birthday of one person who have done what he want and are now very successful and famous fashion designer, philanthropist and business executive – Ralph Lauren! Happy birthday! 🙂
Illustration Friday’s pick of the week for Ink is so funny picture. You definitely should take a glimpse of it: http://illustrationfriday.com/2015/10/pick-of-the-week-for-ink-and-this-weeks-topic/
But new topic is out there. And that’s: STAR. And I’m really surprised, because I just thought that I’d like this topic in near future. The reason is that I have one picture which I made about half year ago. I made it with traditional pencil and just added little colour tuning in Gimp. So, here it is – the fairy girl, who put every night the stars in the sky and every dawn pick them off again. 🙂
I hope that I have enough time to make another picture of this week. Maybe second picture of star. Or maybe I will make new Stevie picture (Stevie is my little cat. You can find the pictures I have made of him here: https://hannalaasberg.wordpress.com/stevie-the-cat/ ). Or maybe I’ll make something new. I just hope that I have time to do something.
I have caught cold and last few days have been quite awful. So I hope I’ll be better tomorrow.
And finally, here is one interesting fact about stars:
“The closest star to Earth is Proxima Centauri, located 4.2 light-years away. In other words, it takes light itself more than 4 years to complete the journey from Earth. If you tried to hitch a ride on the fastest spacecraft ever launched from Earth, it would still take you more than 70,000 years to get there from here.” ¹
Did you know that every October, artists all over the world take part of the InkTober drawing challenge by doing one ink drawing a day the entire month. I think it’s a great idea. But I take part of the challenge in a little another way. Inspired by InkTober, Illustration Friday this week’s topic is Ink. So I definitely submit my picture.
This week has been quite busy. I had a job interview in capital city (unfortunately I must work 😥 ) and my sister’s son had a birthday. This mean that there was much travelling, because I currently live in small island, which is located quite far to the mainland.
Despite that I found some time to make the picture. And here is the result. I hope you like it. 🙂
Today is the 1st October and in my homeland it’s getting colder and colder with each day. But in the warm room in front of the computer with tea or cocoa it’s really cozy.
I have been participated in IllustrationFriday weekly art challenges lately. If you’re not familiar with this, then check out www.illustrationfriday.com. There’s some really cool artwork to explore and maybe you will even start to take part of the challenge yourself. I haven’t been chosen to be the pick of the week, but I still have the motivation to participate because this gives me interesting themes to draw and time limit makes me draw often and faster.
This week’s topic is Prize. And…here is the result – this is about the girl who had made a drawing for competition and very, very wants to win. I’m not very satisfied with the result, but today is the last day of this topic, so I have no time to start again. The girl in this picture is made in MyPaint (the rest of it in Inkscape as usual) and I hope that the fact that I’m not very familiar with this program (yet) helps to reduce the criticism a bit. 🙂
Fortunately, there is new topic tomorrow and I am excited to see what it is.
So, if you live in cold area too, keep yourself warm and enjoy the autumn.
And here’s to you one nice quote about prize:
“You keep your eyes on the prize, you try to do what’s right, and eventually, you’ll reach your goal.” Eric Holder
